Bluffton is easily accessible by land, water, rail and air. The region is located between the ports and airports of Charleston, Hilton Head Island and Savannah, Interstate 95 and the major East Coast rail corridor. It is the perfect location for business in the continental United States as well as international.

Interstate and Highways

Just about 9 miles from Interstate 95, Bluffton is centrally located along the Atlantic Seaboard to points south (Georgia, Florida) and points north (North Carolina, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Maryland and so forth). Just two hours from Jacksonville, Florida, four hours from Atlanta and five hours from Orlando and Raleigh, you and your company is positioned to distribute or serve major cities while living and working in a coastal town.

Airports

Hilton Head Island Airport

Located 16 miles from Bluffton, Hilton Head Island Airport (HXD) is the area’s premier civil airport offering flights serviced by US Airways Express. US Airways currently offers eight arriving flights from Charlotte, NC and nine flights departing for Charlotte, NC as well as one Saturday flight to and from Washington, DC. HXD also serves private aircraft through Signature Flight Support.

Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport

Located 22 miles from Bluffton, Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) is the second largest of nine commercial airports in Georgia behind Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. With its primary 9,351-foot long runway and secondary 7,001-foot long crosswind runway, the airport is capable of serving most commercial, general aviation, and military aircraft. Seven airlines fly direct to 10 destinations and the airport supports robust corporate and general aviation activity, charter, and military activity as well as the more than 80 companies located on-airport property.

Rail Service

The Port of Savannah offers Class I rail service via both CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern to and from major population centers in the U.S. Southeast, Gulf and Midwest. We have the fastest westward transit times in the South Atlantic region, including overnight service to a 5-state area — Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.

CSX Corporation (Cargo)

CSX Corporation, based in Jacksonville, Fla., is one of the nation’s leading transportation companies, providing rail, intermodal and transload services. The company’s transportation network spans approximately 21,000 miles, with service to 23 eastern states and the District of Columbia, and connects to more than 70 ocean, river and lake ports.

Norfolk Southern (Cargo)

Norfolk Southern is one of the nation’s premier transportation companies. Its Norfolk Southern Railway Company subsidiary operates approximately 20,000 route miles in 22 states and the District of Columbia, serves every major container port in the eastern United States, and provides efficient connections to other rail carriers. Norfolk Southern operates the most extensive intermodal network in the East and is a major transporter of coal, automotive, and industrial products.

Amtrak (Passenger)

Amtrak's Silver Service/Palmetto routes offer passenger rail service connecting New York City and Miami. The Savannah Amtrak station, located 25 miles from Bluffton, provides ticketing and baggage services and is served by six daily trains.

Ports

Port of Savannah

The Port of Savannah, home to the largest single-terminal container facility of its kind in North America, is comprised of two modern, deepwater terminals: Garden City Terminal and Ocean Terminal. Together, these facilities exemplify the GPA’s exacting standards of efficiency and productivity. Garden City Terminal is the fourth busiest container handling facilities in the United States, encompassing more than 1,200 acres and moving millions of tons of containerized cargo annually.

Port of Charleston

As the fourth busiest container port in the nation, the Port of Charleston handles more than $3 million in cargo every hour. The Port offers the deepest channels in the region; capable of accommodating 8,000 container ships and provides convenient access to global markets.
